Fiordland
Nowhere is the wild beauty of New Zealand displayed with more effect than the stunning landscapes of Fiordland. Here, untamed waterfalls tumble hundreds of metres into virgin forested valleys, lonely fiords greet sun with enchanted birdsong and stretches of crystal clear lakes shimmer in the pure air surrounded by a mantle of vivid green rainforest and towering granite peaks.
The scenery is wild, dramatic and breathtaking. The power of nature and unsurpassed beauty of the area stuns and enthralls visitors- the sheer magnitude of the landscapes inspiring awe and leaving lasting memories. As well as being New Zealand’s largest National Park, Fiordland was, in 1986, judged as having ‘superlative natural phenomena’ and outstanding examples of… the earths evolutionary history’ when it was made into a World heritage area.
Fiordland contains some of the New Zealand’s best-known icons: Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound, Mitre Peak and the Great Walks.
Te Anau- the home of the KiwiLobster has the international reputation as the “walking capital of the world.’
The Great Walks include:
1.The (world famous) Milford Track 2.The Routeburn Track 3.The Kepler Track 4.The Hollyford Valley Walking Track
These tracks offer a sense of freedom and escape seldom found. Walking allows access to towering snow-capped peaks, tussock clad alpine plateaus, rainforest and dramatic beauty. There are also endless hiking and tramping opportunities on other tracks within Fiordland National Park, which can be explored independently or as part of a guided group.
The serene, deep waters of Lake Te Anau, make up the second largest lake in New Zealand. The lake is bordered on its western shore by lush virgin forest. The attractive resort town of Te Anau lies nestled on the edge of this beautiful lake, with a spectacular backdrop of Mt. Luxmore and the Murchison Mountains.
