Disc Golf Te Anau once again hosted the ‘Fiordland Fortune Disc Golf Challenge’ in February 2021.
There are around 18 annual Disc golf tournaments in New Zealand that are usually run over two days. Players are grouped into divisions (male/female age grouped) with all competitors playing four rounds of 18 – 21 baskets over two days. Players range from 14 to 80 years old.
There is a raft of Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) standards and guidelines for how to run events. With the generous support of Fiordland Lobster Company, Te Anau’s Ivon Wilson disc golf course was upgraded in January 2021 to include nine new PDGA approved baskets (replacing the locally made first set of baskets). This now puts Ivon Wilson Park squarely on the national map as a premium disc golf course.
The 2021 Fiordland Fortune was a great success – the weather showcased the natural beauty of Ivon Wilson Park, and the course challenged players with higher levels of difficulty.
Disc Golf Te Anau appreciates Fiordland Lobster Company’s continued support with the course at Ivon Wilson Park. It is now possible for Fiordland to host bigger tournaments and over the next few years build a reputation as a world class disc golf venue.
